Volunteer Roles
Teachers
Teacher couples volunteer their time to meet & teach couples. They are available for follow ups, answering questions, and helping with chart interpretation. Our teacher couples care deeply about natural family planning and offer couples a personalized learning experience.
Board Members
Board Members dedicate their time to the management and governance of the organization. Members from across Canada meet regularly to make decisions about the health and future of Serena. Our board members have all been involved with Serena in a variety of capacities, for many years.
Writers & Editers
Volunteers are also involved in the writing and editing of our teaching and training materials. We produce many tools, like our General Instructions Handbook, which help our teachers teach and our clients learn. Volunteer involvement enables us to produce the resources our clients and teachers need.

Léonie Houle-Parent
Léonie has been a teacher in Québec since 2016 and served on the Serena Québec board since 2018. She contributes in many ways and is particularly active regarding the topics of: Conception and Return of Fertility After Childbirth. A student midwife, Leonie is energetic and passionate

Jean and Chris have been a teacher couple in Alberta for many years. They have served as the President Couple of Serena Canada and have been involved in keeping Serena running in Alberta and nationally. Jean has done great work helping us to continue to improve our materials
Mary Alice Boyer
Mary Alice and her late husband Julien taught as a teacher couple in British Columbia for over 20 years. At one time, they even served as president couple at the local, provincial, and national level all at once! Mary Alice continues to assist with Serena BC’s
Janelle & Jean Lafrance
Jean and Janelle have been a teacher couple in Manitoba for 13 years and promoting Serena by making natural family planning presentations at diocesan study days and at marriage preparation courses. They have also served on the Serena Manitoba and Serena Canada board in various roles
Bill & Grace Richmond
Bill and Grace became a Serena teacher couple in 1986 With Serena Saskatchewan, and then moved to Ontario three years later. They have served on the Serena Ontario and Serena Canada boards on and off since 2009 and are now taking on the challenge of serving

Marie-Paule Doyle has a long history with Serena. She and her late husband, Raymond Doyle, were involved with Serena since 1963 when they became a teacher-couple. Cathy & David Bouchard
David and Cathy have been involved with Serena for over 40 years. They are currently serving as President Couple for Serena Alberta and served on the Serena Canada board for six years. We’re told that Cathy and David’s commitment and loyalty to the entire Serena organization
Carmen Thibault
Carmen and her husband Roy taught as a teacher couple in New Brunswick for almost 30 years. Carmen continues to volunteer for Serena by keeping Serena running in New Brunswick and serving on the Serena Canada board.
Louise & Gord MacMillan
Gord and Louise are a long-time teacher couple in both Ontario and Quebec. They have been involved in guiding Serena in Ontario and nationally for many years. They continue to support by helping to write and review materials and by supporting the National Office in many ways.
Ray & Colleen Branson
Colleen and Ray have been a volunteer teacher couple in British Columbia for many years. Despite Colleen’s busy work schedule, she and Ray serve on the Serena Canada Board of Directors and are the current President Couple of Serena British Columbia.
Sabrina da Silva & Fabian Ballesteros
Sabrina and Fabian are a Quebec teacher couple. They have served on the boards of Serena Quebec and Serena Canada. They have also helped update Serena teaching and training materials. Serena has also benefited from Fabian’s knowledge and training in Medicine and ethics especially through his assistance to

Deborah and Don have been a Serena teacher couple in Saskachewan since 1999. As a couple Deborah and Don are very dedicated to the ‘counter cultural’ lifestyle of natural family planning having both separately and together served on the Serena Saskatchewan and Serena Canada Boards.
